What a difference a day makes...Generator-edition
When you buy an old Police Station you can end up with some out-of-the-ordinary things that come with it. Written into the purchasing contract are words to the effect ‘whatever is on the property when you get the keys is yours’. Our ‘whatevers’ include an ex-ventilation shaft for a mine - well it is Newtongrange after all! - and…a generator, complete with starter handle, switchgear, diesel tank, pump, exhausts and all associated brackets etc.
Thanks to trusty ebay, we find a local-ish buyer; all good.
Now all we have to do is deliver it to them.
Cue a day of properly getting our hands dirty, draining the diesel tank into a full-on 55 gallon drum (Amazon really do sell everything!; although I’m not sure the metal drum really needed the protection of its cardboard shipping box!), removing the switchgear off the walls, taking down pipework, brackets etc. Aside from the fact that I now need a massage , we successfully (with help from a friend) got everything loaded into our van, Mia. it wasn’t until we had it all loaded that we realised just how much stuff there was; a full van load. The generator itself weighed in a a chunky 349Kg.
But, it’s done and that is a room cleared, pretty much ready for use; which is handy as we’re about to start knocking down walls inside the main space and need some storage space in the meantime!
